What will our day look like in the program?
There are two main pathways that students can access.
Student A chooses an independent pathway. They are provided pencil paper materials, online classrooms and activities and learning targets to complete for the week. They work asynchronously at home to finish all tasks and check in with their instructor once each week. If they choose they could access tutoring, live Zoom lessons in specific content areas and/or morning meetings to socialize with peers. These students also have access to in-person learning and the Tech Lab by choice.
Student B chooses a teacher led pathway. They are provided with pencil paper materials, online classrooms and learning targets for their week. They then meet with their teacher and peers via Zoom for learning from 9:00-12:00 each day of the week. They also may participate in afternoon tutoring, in-person learning opportunities and some asynchronous work three times per week. These students also have access to in-person learning and the Tech Lab by choice.
At the end of each week, all students will complete content specific check-ins to measure and monitor their progress. Students may be assigned a different pathway pending their satisfactory progress.
What will students do at the Learning Hub?
Students meet with their teachers and classmates in small groups to socialize, receive targeted instruction, complete assessments, participate in enrichment activities, and access the Technology Lab. They will be able to check out materials and books.
When can students access the Learning Hub?
All students can access the Learning Hub on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons throughout the year.
When students are learning from home, what will they be doing?
At home, students learn synchronously and asynchronously to complete reading, writing and math lessons. They will participate in small groups, one on one tutoring, complete paper and pencil, seesaw activities, and move through online programs at their own pace. See the sample daily schedule for more details.
What will students be learning about?
Students receive instruction around priority standards, just like their in-building peers. Math, reading, and writing lessons will be tailored to meet students’ individual needs. Social studies and science lessons will be standards-based.
What if my student has an IEP or 504 Plan?
Student IEP and 504 plans will be followed. Teachers will support students in the classroom and a special education teacher will work directly with students with IEPs.
Who will be my student’s teacher?
The Mead Virtual Program is staffed with certificated teachers from the Mead School District.
What will I need to support my student?
We have a parent support document on the website already! Click here.
Will my student have time to make friends?
Each morning is scheduled for community building and social-emotional learning. The Learning Hub will be a community center where students can play, learn, and socialize.
